Michael Beutler was born in Oldenburg, Germany, in 1976 and lives and works in Berlin. Beutler is a trailblazer in new forms of art and design. He has staged several one-man shows and has been involved in numerous shows in the most prestigious international art exhibitions and biennials. Beutler is interested in the historic evolution of architecture and its socio-cultural values and his projects are designed for and within the place where the works are installed. His most significant works include the Baroque-inspired labyrinth in Villa Manin (2006), the "Flip" installation in Braunschweig (2004), and several other complex architectural and exhibition works in Frankfurt, New York, London, Moscow, Paris and Berlin.

Beutler was the winning artist of the illy Present Future 2005 prize, an award for young contemporary artists established by illy and Artissima, the international contemporary art exhibition held in Turin. Each year, the winning emerging artist receives a cash award as well as the opportunity to present a project to decorate an illy Art Collection which is created for worldwide distribution.
